Fishing for "cool" Bass.
~ OutdoorRegs.com STAR Article ~

When the weather is frosty and cool, Bass can still be caught. Their metabolisms are slower now so they consume less food, less often. They tend to be concentrated in deep water during this time. Fishing a slow bait is the key. The longer the lure is in the strike zone, the better look a bass has at it. Slow moving baits are above all, the best.

Plastic worms fished slowly are very effective. Natural colors and blue, black, red shades work well on  worms. Hopping the worm slowly with 10-15 second pauses is the ticket for success. Jigs with pork rind or with trailers work well fished in the manner. "Wobble Head" worms that swim like snakes work well also.

Suspended jerk baits will also help you score a bass. Just concentrate on slow jerks. Rainbow Bass, Yellow Perch patterns are my favorite. If you can't find perch patterns, just find a yellow or gold jerk bait that has a black back, and paint vertical strips like the perch have.

The lakes have small juvenile fish now. Try to find small, medium to deep divers that have a good side to side wobble when fishing's slow. Cast them & swim them quickly to get deep, then crank slowly. Test your lure first to see the right speed to crank for a slow wobble down deep. Lures with internal rattles help fish locate them easily if they are around.

Wheedles spoons in Yellow Perch or crawdad colors work as well. Left them off the bottom and let them flutter down. The "Rapala" spoon has a dying minnow flutter and great colors.

Also check your favorite fishing or outdoor magazine for a lunar fishing guide. This gives you the best days of each month that fish are more likely to feed. Some days it works well, and other times the fish have a mind of there own.

Just remember; to conserve your catch, have fun just fishing, and obey the fishing rules!

Good Fishing To Everyone,
