Bluefin Tuna
Thunnus thynnus
A popular sportfish the Bluefin Tuna is also a prized food fish. Younger Bluefin tend to stay in warmer surface water in the open ocean. When mature, they tend to move to deeper water. Thier diet consists basically of anything that swims and is smaller then they are with school fish like Mackerel, Butterfish and Bluefish being favorites.

Albacore Tuna
Thunnus alalunga
A California sportfish mania the Albacore is taken in numbers approaching 230,000 off the Southern Califoria coast where it summers. The Albacore migrates long distances, sometimes wintering off the coast of Japan. Favorite foods include surface dwelling crabs and crustaceans, squid and assorted baitfish.

Length: Up to 5' (1.5 m)
Weight: Up to 96 lbs (43kg)

Atlantic: Nova Scotia to Brazil
Pacific: Alaska to Isla Clarion, Mexico.


Black Marlin
Makaira indica
A famous fighting fish highly prized among Pacific anglers. They feed on Mackerel, flying fishes, sardines and squids. Black Marlin along with thier cousins the Striped Marlin (Tetrapturus audax) spawn in the Northern Pacific from May to August.

Length: Up to 14'8" (4.5m)
Weight: Up to1805 lbs (818kg)

Yellow Tail

A popular gamefish (second only to the Albacore Tuna in S.California) annual catches range from 5,000 to 40,000 fish. The Yellowtail's migration into Californian waters is largely dependeant on water temperature. Main food sources include Anchovies, Sardines, Squids, Mackerels and an blue water species of Red Crab.

Dolphin (Mahi-Mahi, Dorado)
Coryphaena hippurus
A well known Florida sportfish the Dolphin (not to be confused with the mammal of the same name) is also known as Dorado and, commercially as Mahi-mahi. Known for being a great fighting fish Dolphins are usually found near the surface in over deep water. Young Dolphins are part of the communities living around rafts of sargassum. Colors are vivid and bright, almost unaturally so, but fade immediately after death.

Weight: Up to 87 lbs (39.5kg)
