Black Crappie
Pomoxis nigromaculatus
An extemely popular fish both for food and sport, especially in the southern United States. The Black Crappie lives in slow-moving and still, warm clear water such as ponds, streams that fit the above description, reservoirs and lakes. Although related to the more abundant White Crappie P.annularis the Blak Crappie does not share it's tolerance of silty and turbid water.

Length: Up to 16" (41 cm)
Weight: Up to 5 lbs (2.3 kg)
Range
Canada: Quebec, Ontario and Southern Manitoba
United States: East and Central U.S except coastal areas from Maine to Virginia

Channel Catfish

The Channel Catfish is a very popular sportfish. It is also an increasingly popular food fish and is the principal species raised through the use of aquaculture. They prefer sandy or rocky bottoms in medium to light current.

Length: Up to 3'11" (1.2 m)
Weight: Up to 58 lbs (26.3 kg)

Canada: Southern Quebec across to Southern Alberta
United States: East and Central United States


American Shad
Alosa sapidissima
Tha American Shad is a sportfish of the greatest interest in the Northeast United States. A school fish Shad must return to estuaries, streams and rivers to spawn. Highly prized commercially in the same area Shad Roe is a considered a delicacy and those "in the know" eagerly await the first Shad Runs in early spring beginning south of Maryland. Shad meat is very oily and the boning of the fish is an art requiring not a little experience. The season lasts until mid-summer depending of weather and water temperature.

East Coast United States: Southern Labrador to the St. Johns River, Florida.
West Coast United States (Introduced): Alaska to Mexico.
