Tha American Shad is a sportfish of the greatest interest in the Northeast United States. A school fish Shad must return to estuaries, streams and rivers to spawn. Highly prized commercially in the same area Shad Roe is a considered a delicacy and those "in the know" eagerly await the first Shad Runs in early spring beginning south of Maryland. Shad meat is very oily and the boning of the fish is an art requiring not a little experience. The season lasts until mid-summer depending of weather and water temperature.
